Grade 2 Weekly Classroom Update -5.29.2026

 🌟 Grade 2 Weekly Classroom Update 🌟

Dear Grade 2 Families,

We had another wonderful week of learning, creativity, and discovery in Grade 2! Students explored poetry, completed important research writing, strengthened their math skills, and learned more about communities and government.

📚 Language Arts – Poetry & Frog Research

This week, students continued their poetry unit and learned several poetry techniques, including:

  • 🎵 Repetition – repeating words or phrases for effect
  • 🎶 Rhyming – words that sound alike
  • Alliteration – words that begin with the same sound

Students used these tools to write their own poems inspired by topics that give them “big feelings.”

We also continued our Frog Research Project by researching and writing about:

  • 🔄 Frog life cycles
  • 🤩 Interesting frog facts
  • 🐸 Final published research writing

Students worked hard to turn their research into organized and informative writing pieces.

🔢 Math – Addition & Subtraction Strategies

In Math, students:

  • ➕ Practiced addition using the Hundreds Chart strategy
  • ➖ Practiced subtraction using the Hundreds Chart strategy
  • 🧠 Solved word problems
  • 📏 Strengthened their number sense with double-digit numbers

Students continued building confidence by using the hundreds chart to find patterns, count efficiently, and explain their mathematical thinking.

🐣 Science – Life Cycle Observation

Students participated in a special egg candling observation as part of our chicken life cycle learning. This hands-on experience allowed students to observe development inside an egg and make connections to our life cycle studies.

🌍 Social Studies – Government & Elections

Students continued learning about:

  • 🗳️ Elections
  • 👨‍💼 Community leaders such as mayors, premiers, and prime ministers

Students reflected on their learning through journal activities and class discussions.

🦘 About Me Bin – Australia

Our About Me Bin journey took us to Australia this week! 🇦🇺

Students learned about Australian culture, geography, animals, traditions, and family connections while continuing to celebrate the diverse backgrounds represented in our classroom community.
