Dear Grade 2 Families,

We had another exciting and creative week of learning in Grade 2! Students explored new concepts across subjects and continued to build their confidence in sharing their ideas.

📚 Language Arts – Conjunctions & Research

In Language Arts, students learned about conjunctions (joining words like and, but, so) through games and interactive activities.

We also began frog research, where students:

• 🧠 Learned what Research means 
• ✏️ Used the TIDE Rocket and Jot Notes to organize ideas
• 🎤 Participated in discussions and vocabulary games

Students are beginning to build early research and note-taking skills in a fun and engaging way!

🔢 Math – Double-Digit Subtraction

In Math, we continued working on double-digit subtraction (without regrouping) using a number line.

We also practiced:

• 🔍 Esti-Mysteries to strengthen estimation
• 🧠 Explaining our thinking clearly

Students are becoming more confident using strategies to solve problems step-by-step.

🌍 Social Studies – Culture, Heritage & Earth Day

This week, students explored:

• 🌎 Earth Day learning and art, focusing on caring for our planet
• 🦬 Métis heritage, learning about culture, history, and identity

These lessons help students build respect, understanding, and connection to the world around them.

🎨 Art – Creative Expression

Students created:

• 🎨 Earth Day art projects
• 🟡 Métis-inspired dot art

Their creativity and attention to detail really shone through!

Our Totes About Me journey continues! This week, our learning led us to the Philippines.

🌟 Grade 2 Weekly Classroom Update 🌟

 Dear Grade 2 Families,

We had an exciting and engaging week of learning in Grade 2! Students explored new ideas in writing, math, science, and social studies while continuing to build confidence in sharing their thinking.

📚 Language Arts – POWER Writing: Bioluminescence

This week, students worked through the full POWER Writing process using a fun and creative prompt about bioluminescence (animals that can glow in the dark!).

Students:

🧠 Planned and organized their ideas (What animal? What color? When would it glow?)

✏️ Wrote detailed pieces over multiple days

🔍 Edited their work carefully

🎤 Shared their writing during Author’s Circle

It was wonderful to see their creativity and imagination come to life!

🔢 Math – Double-Digit Subtraction

In Math, we focused on double-digit subtraction (without regrouping) using a number line.

We also continued:

🔍 Esti-Mysteries to build estimation skills

🧠 Practicing how to explain our thinking clearly

Students are growing more confident using strategies to solve problems step-by-step.

🔬 Science – Exploring Light

Our Science learning continued with light and how it behaves.

Students explored:

💡 Reflection and refraction

🧠 Hands-on light centers and experiments

Students were engaged in observing, questioning, and recording their thinking like young scientists!

🎨 Art – Inspired Creations

Students created beautiful Van Gogh-inspired flowers in a vase, focusing on patterns, colour, and creativity. Their artwork is vibrant and full of personality!

Our Totes About Me journey continues to take us around the world! This week, our learning led us to Nigeria.

Students learned about:

This week in Language Arts, students worked through the full POWER Writing process using their experience from our Telus Spark field trip.

Throughout the week, students:

• 🧠 Planned and organized their ideas
• ✏️ Wrote detailed drafts
• 🔍 Edited and re-read their work
• 🎤 Shared their writing with their peers in an Author's sharing circle 

Students did a wonderful job recalling their experiences and adding details to bring their writing to life!

In Math, we continued learning double-digit addition (without regrouping) using a number line.

We also practiced:

Field Trip to TELUS Spark Science Centre

Yesterday, our class had an unforgettable field trip to TELUS Spark Science Centre! Students explored a variety of hands-on exhibits, sparking curiosity, creativity, and lots of excitement along the way. From interactive science displays to engaging discovery spaces, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

A big thank you to our wonderful parent and guardian volunteers who supported us throughout the day—helping on the bus, carrying lunch kits and water bottles, and guiding groups through the exhibits. Your support made this experience smooth, safe, and truly special for our students.
