Grade 2 Weekly Update-4/2/2026

 Dear Grade 2 Families,

Welcome back! We had a wonderful week settling back into our routines and sharing stories from Spring Break. It was so nice to see everyone again and hear about their adventures!

πŸ“š Language Arts – POWER Writing: My Spring Break

In Language Arts, students worked through the POWER Writing process as they wrote about their Spring Break experiences:

  • 🧠 Planning their ideas
  • πŸ—‚ Organizing their thoughts
  • ✏️ Writing their stories
  • πŸ” Editing their work

Students are becoming more confident in expressing their ideas and adding details to make their writing more engaging. We also continued building literacy skills through Literacy Stations and Small Group Lessons.

πŸ”’ Math – Double-Digit Addition

In Math, we focused on double-digit addition (without regrouping) using a number line.

We also continued:

  • πŸ” Esti-Mysteries to build estimation skills
  • 🧠 Strengthening number sense and explaining our thinking

Students are learning how to break numbers apart and solve problems step-by-step with confidence.

πŸ”¬ Science & Art – Creativity and Observation

This week, students explored creativity through both science and art connections:

  • 🐰 Zentangle Rabbit Art (Part I & II) – focusing on patterns, creativity, and attention to detail
  • 🌸 Watercolour Pencil Spring Flowers – experimenting with colour blending and artistic expression

Students practiced patience, focus, and creativity while creating beautiful pieces.

🌍 Social Studies – Totes About Me

Our Totes About Me learning continues to take us around the world! This week, our exploration led us to Peru.

Students are learning about:

  • Different cultures and traditions
  • Family heritage and ancestry
  • Connections between people and places

These conversations continue to build a strong sense of identity, respect, and appreciation for the diversity in our classroom.

πŸ“Œ Reminders & Important Information

Our field trip to the Telus Spark Science Centre was a fantastic experience! Students engaged in hands-on exhibits and inquiry-based learning.
