Grade 2 Weekly Classroom 5-8-2026

 🌟 Grade 2 Weekly Classroom Update 🌟

Dear Grade 2 Families,

We had another exciting week full of inquiry, creativity, collaboration, and hands-on learning in Grade 2! Students continued building their understanding across literacy, math, and social studies through engaging activities and discussions.

📚 Language Arts – Frog Research

This week, students continued their exciting frog research projects! 🐸

We explored:

  • 🍽 Frog diets
  • 🔄 Frog life cycles
  • 👀 Frog appearance

Students practiced:

  • Planning and organizing ideas
  • Writing first drafts
  • Using research to answer questions
  • Sharing information clearly

It has been wonderful seeing students grow in confidence as young researchers and writers!

🔢 Math – Base 10 & Decomposing Numbers

In Math, students worked with:

  • 🧱 Base 10 blocks for addition and subtraction
  • ✏️ Drawing tens and ones
  • 🧠 Decomposing numbers to solve addition problems

Students also continued strengthening their mathematical thinking through:

  • 🔍 Esti-Mysteries
  • 🗣 Explaining strategies and reasoning

🌍 Social Studies – Needs, Wants & Trade

Our Social Studies learning focused on:

  • 🏠 Community needs and wants
  • 🌎 Imports and exports
  • 🤝 What trade is and why countries trade

Students created their own international trading cards and participated in a very exciting Class Trading Game! Students worked in groups to trade goods between countries using different transportation methods like:

  • 🚚 Trucks
  • 🚢 Ships
  • ✈️ Airplanes

Students loved taking on roles such as:

  • Speaker
  • Recorder
  • Manager
  • Reporter

This was an amazing hands-on way to explore global connections and problem-solving.

🎨 Art – Mother’s Day Flowers

Students created beautiful Georgia O’Keeffe-inspired flower art for Mother’s Day. 🌸
Their artwork was vibrant, creative, and full of thoughtful detail.

📅 IMPORTANT UPCOMING DATES

📌 Friday – May 15 – NON-INSTRUCTIONAL DAY
There will be no school for students on this day.

Thank you for your continued support and partnership. It is such a joy watching the students learn, collaborate, and grow together each day!

Warmly,
Ms. Oshokoya
