I hope you are having a wonderful long weekend! Here is a look at what we have been learning in our classroom.
📚 English Language Arts (ELA)
✏️ This week, students learned how to draw the Olympic Rings by following step-by-step instructions. This activity supported listening skills, sequencing, and following directions.
📖 We continued reading Elmer and the Dragon (Part 2) during snack time. Students are practicing predicting, visualizing, and discussing character actions to deepen comprehension.
🔤 During Literacy Stations, students rotated through centers focused on reading, word work, writing, and literacy small groups. We continue strengthening decoding and fluency skills.
🔢 Math
🗣️ In Math, we focused on:
• Math Talks
• Mental Math: Counting Forward (Roll, Pick, and Count On)
• Addition strategies during Mindful Math
➕ Students are building confidence in counting on and explaining their thinking. We are encouraging them to share their strategies and listen carefully to the ideas of others.
🔬 Science – Exploring Sound
🎵 We began our new Science topic on sound and vibrations! Students explored how sound is created and how vibrations travel.
🥁 We conducted a vibration experiment using maracas, drums, triangles, and our voices to see if we could make sprinkles move on plastic wrap. Students made predictions, observed carefully, and recorded their thinking in their journals.
💬 Ask your child:
• How does sound work?
• Which instrument made the sprinkles move the most?
🎵 Physical Education, Music & Wellness
🏃 Students participated in gym, music, and movement breaks throughout the week to support focus, coordination, and overall well-being.
🧳 Totes About Me
🌍 During Totes About Me, we continued exploring our classroom ancestry. Our learning has led us again to China, where we discussed family roots, traditions, and cultural connections. It has been wonderful to see students sharing proudly about their heritage while learning about one another.
📅 Reminder
💗 February 25th – Pink Shirt Day
Pink Shirt Day is an annual event in Canada that stands against bullying and promotes kindness and inclusion. Students are encouraged to wear pink to show their support.
